Pre-Holiday Spending Tips

With the holiday season in full swing, here are some tips to help keep spending under control!

  • Make a gift list before you begin shopping
  • Calculate how much you are prepared to spend, in total, before you start shopping
  • Decide how much you can spend on each individual gift
  • Don’t leave your Christmas shopping until the last moment
  • Purchase your gifts throughout the year in order to obtain the best deals
  • Visit flea markets and craft shows and take advantage of sales
  • Open a bank account for “ gifts only” and set aside funds every month of the year
  • If you absolutely must purchase gifts on credit, avoid high interest bearing loans or credit cards
  • Save your wrapping paper to use again next year
  • Don’t overspend into unmanageable debt
  • Remember that the joy of giving lasts only a few minutes. The stress associated with high debts can last for years
