Juke Box Mania 2011 Raised Over $13,000 to Help Prevent Homelessness!

May 10th, 2011

Community Counselling and Resource Centre's Juke Box Mania raised more funds than ever at its 6th annual event.  The Trentwinds came alive on April 29th, with over 300 people dancing in the aisles, dressed in flashy costumes to compete in a fun "name that tune game."  Organizers were dancing after the event as they tallied up the proceeds with over $13,000 raised to go directly to prevent homelessness through CCRC's Housing Resource Centre.

CCRC is a community agency with over 50 years of experience in strengthening people's lives and promoting community well-being.  A United Way agency, it offers counselling, support and resources to assist with personal well-being, credit and financial management, access to housing and connections with the community.  Juke Box Mania proceeds will specifically support the Housing Resource Centre and the work they do:  preventing homelessness by offering a wide range of services to help families and individuals secure and maintain affordable and decent housing.

The night featured great music, food, entertainment and a costume contest, raffle and silent auction, all to raise money to prevent homelessness.  After the judges tallied the scores the top three teams were:  1st prize: 'Inaccess' a team put in by Doug Peachey of Access Electric; 2nd prize: the 'LLF' team put in by Phil Aldrich of LLF Lawyers LLP and 3rd prize: 'The Decades' a team put in by Cheryl Christie.  While many teams dressed in eye-catching costumes, the prize for the best costume went to Janice Green's team 'The Blue Man Group'.

CCRC extends thanks to the many sponsors and donors supporting Juke Box Mania, including The WOLF / KRUZ / CHEX and The Peterborough Examiner; Level A; Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants; LLF  Lawyers LLP; Dr. Kathryn Moore and Irwin, Sargent & Lowes Insurance Brokers.  We also thank donors for the game prizes with 1st prize from Jewell Just Fine Wines in Warsaw, 2nd prize from Natas Cafe, 3rd prize from The Canadian Canoe Museum, special Gold, Silver & Bronze medals for all game winners from Ricart, and the prize for the costume contest from K and C Costume.
