The Housing Resource Centre's mission is that
every person within Peterborough City and County lives free of poverty
with equal access to safe and secure housing and community resources.

Housing Registry [top]
Landlord's vacancy listings for the City and
County of Peterborough are provided to tenants seeking rental housing.
Landlords list their properties on this computerized registry free of
charge.
Help to apply for community and rent
geared-to-income housing (subsidized, public, non-profit or
cooperative) for families, seniors, couples or individuals.
Information on landlord and tenant rights and
responsibilities, social benefits; such as Ontario Works and Ontario
Disability Support Program, and referrals to and information on Housing
Help Centres in other areas.
Referrals to other services and agencies within
the City and County of Peterborough.
Referrals to, or help to apply for emergency
financial assistance.
Housing Support [top]
Assessment, case management, individual support
and advocacy for people facing significant barriers related to finding
housing or maintaining affordable housing such as; homelessness,
poverty, disabilities including mental, physical, or developmental,
chronic illness or injury, fleeing abuse, discrimination, vulnerable
youth, frail elderly, and persons with literacy or language
difficulties.
Assistance with the completion of applications,
negotiations with landlords, housing providers and service providers.
Information and help with eviction related
problems e.g. eviction or harassment.
Accompaniment to appointments & home visits
for people with disabilities or no transportation.
Information and referral to other agencies and
services.
Support is available to help people retain
affordable housing when faced with problems that might lead to loss of
housing. Examples include; rent or utility arrears; negotiation of
payment plans, referral or assistance in obtaining emergency
assistance, referral to free legal advice, conflict resolution with
neighbours, landlords, etc.
Emergency Assistance Funds [top]
Emergency Fund
Program: Financial assistance to help prevent or to
resolve
homelessness in the City and County of Peterborough. Assistance is
available to low income people who are homeless or at risk of
homelessness.
A new position has been created funded by Service Canada commencing March,
2006 for a one year duration. The Fund Developer position will be
responsible for raising sustainable funds for the Emergency Assistance
Fund.
FUSE (Fund for
Utility Service Emergencies): This fund directly assists
people in retaining electrical, water and sewage services and assists
in avoiding
evictions. FUSE is funded by the Peterborough Utilities Services
and by many generous donations provided by local households through
direct contributions added to their PUS monthly bill.
Rent Bank
Fund: This fund directly assists people who are at risk
of eviction to retain their housing and is funded by the City of
Peterborough. Pending availability of funds.
Winter Warmth
Fund: This fund directly assists people in retaining
their Enbridge gas service and is administered by the United Way of
Peterborough & District. Program runs from December to March
each year depending on the availability of funds.
Emergency Energy
Fund: This fund directly assists people by ensuring that
their source of heating during the winter months is retained and is
funded by the City of Peterborough. Program runs from December to
March each year depending on the availability of funds.

you receive an eviction notice or if your heat or hydro company is
threatening to cut off your service or if you are literally
homeless. Strict verification of information and eligibility
guidelines apply.
